Each year the holidays season entices us with ideals of spiritual growth and family bonding, but how often do we find ourselves caught up in the 'trap' of doing too much, spending too much, and ignoring our own needs in hopes to fulfill someone else's want. The result is that people end up feeling stressed and on the verge of a full blown meltdowns. There is a simple solution to this and it's as easy as devoting time to your spiritual well being. Try it! You just might find that this is the season you make deeper connections with your loved ones and experience the true peaceful ambiance of this time of year.

I talk about meditation and yoga a lot, so this will be no exception. Lol ;) Focusing your intentions consciously takes practice, but it doesn't have to take long. Just a few short minutes each morning to turn inward and breathe will go a long way- I promise you this. Start by setting a personal intention for the day. Not a specific goal; instead, try to set an intention that will give you the emotional support you need. Again, this is personal and it could be anything from staying calm in stressful situations.. to responding to old family triggers in new ways.. to setting limits on how much energy you offer to others. I think t's a good idea before you go to sleep to re-evaluate your intention again. Doing this, will help you reconnect to your intention and see how you’re doing. Practice makes (darn near) perfect right?!!? So it's best to work with the same intention for as long as it takes for it to become a part of your regular routine.

If you find yourself in a distracted state of mind you can quickly bring yourself back into the moment by becoming aware of your five senses. Close your eyes for a moment and focus on what you hear, what you can smell...open them and notice what it is you're seeing, grab something yummy to taste- now: how do you feel? It's easy to get a little frazzled during this hectic time of year, but if you're aware of your thoughts, taking care of your body, and nurturing your connections this certainly can be a magical time of year. Full of spiritual grown and genuine bonding.
